Dream

Dream
Sometimes when we try new things, we stretch ourselves. We learn, we grow. People give us chances. Sometimes we rise quickly and keep up with the learning curve. Sometimes, not quite fast enough. When we are out doing new things, we are exposed to new things. I was watching 60 minutes. And loved the interview with Sonia Soto Mayor. I loved that part where she was speaking to a group of children and said ...... Sonia Soto Mayor, "Don't ever stop dreaming. Don't ever stop trying. There is courage in trying." We should always try new things. Go for it !! Last year my friend Michelle satisfied the requirements on mountain to become a ski patrol. We both took the classroom part together. I was not able to do the on mountain training last year. Mentally, I was trying to keep "one foot on base." And venture out just so slightly. As I watched how Michelle did it. She took both feet off base and just did whatever needed to be done to morph into what she wanted to happen. To become a patrol. But she lived like a vagabond. The position she got was volunteer, so she worked as a waitress near the resort. And at a coffee shop in another city. And she just lived on the road. Had long days. This year, I was with her when the Patrol Director at her resort offered her a full time paid position. And I was still putting my toe in the water. Through her example, this year, I pulled out all of the stops. This year, when i wanted to become a patrol .... i had the idea that I would just do whatever I need to do to make it happen. And eventually a door opened. I was willing to do WHATEVER needed to happen to make it happen. I was willing to couch surf, whatever. And life opened up. I got a spot in another city. And then life smiled. And a friend of a friend, lent me a condo in that city. No charge. I BELIEVE IN MIRACLES !! I drove 4 hours. Stayed there over the holidays. Worked there for free. Gave up earning money at my job where I was missing work. Pulled out all the stops. And learned and learned and learned. It has been wonderful and I have learned more than I ever imagined. And have learned to do more than I ever thought I could. I am interested in and have a natural ability for some of the duties. But I am not a natural at some of the tasks. It has just been an amazing winter. Pull out the stops, go for it, let life and other people help you. Be willing to be uncomfortable. Having a dream is so passionate. I love having passion in my life !! I am so lucky.

MIRACLE COMPLETE

MIRACLE COMPLETE
One September of 2011, I blogged. Dreaming that i might one day be a patroller. It happened this weekend. This is a picure of me, waiting to do a "sweep" of the mountain after that last skier comes up the chair lift. It was a roller coaster of experiences getting here. And it was as amazing as anything I could have ever imagined !!

Unexpected Mistakes ?

"It often seems, looking back, that the unexpected comes to define us, the paths we didn't see coming and may have wandered down by mistake. The older we get the more willing we are to follow those, to surprise ourselves." — Anna Quindlen This was another quote.... barrowed/ stolen from the oprah website. As we get older, yes, we need to try new things with confidence, but we also need to cut ourselves some slack.
